Users can start off by just uttering “Ok Google, how do I Shop?” or instead a can be a bit more direct and ask “Ok Google, order paper towels.” Google also offers same day delivery depending on the location you live in. Needless to say in order to begin shopping you have first required to set up the Payment method by navigating to “More settings” and then scrolling down to “Payments.” The service will be free until April 2017 post which Google will levy a charge of $4.99. However, the shopping feature is now only available on Google Assistant via the Google Home and not on the one in Pixel. The new feature is expected to deviate Google Home a level up and in a way, it can compete with the Echo better. Since most of us actually don’t expect the Google Home to shop for us the feature will be an added bonus.
The new payments feature on the Google Assistant is expected to open doors for a bunch of whole new feature. Now one would be able to transact completely on the Assistant. The users can further enable/disable the “Pay through your Assistant”. In all likelihood Google is expected to add third party developer support which will allow users to purchase things from multiple channels.
